THOUGHTS ON ART... Mosaics are inspired by experiences, thoughts, views on the world, and are a self-expression of one’s experience in the world or how we want the world to be...all of the experiences in life that make you you and what you bring to your art. I don't think that we directly think about those things are as we are creating our art. It just intrinsically comes out of our hands and into our mosaics.
It’s that feeling when you are creating a piece and it just feels right and you know things are working together in the piece. You also know when something is off and it’s not working right. It’s instinctive. You may or may not be able to see what is off in the piece. That is why so many mosaicists rip up sections of work. Or create a series of pieces on one theme or color so that they can try again on the next piece to get it right. And it’s the artists work (as in the body of work) to evolve and struggle (if you will) with their works until you get to that place where it just flows out of you. -Alissa 2007 |
